A day trip to Szentendre, Hungary in photos

At the end of February on a sunny Sunday we decided to have a picnic in a little gorgeous town called Szentendre. I prepared all the food: quinoa patties, bread, cheese, sour cabbage, sprouts, apple oatmeal muffins and freshly pressed carrot-orange-ginger juice. Then we packed our basket with all the yum stuff and headed to the train station (HÉV = Railway of Local Interest) to go to Szentendre. This riverside town lays in Pest county, Hungary, near the capital, Budapest. It is known for its museums, galleries and artists. Due to its picturesque appearance and easy rail and river access, it has become a popular destination for tourists staying in Budapest. There are many facilities, including souvenir shops and restaurants, small cafes and patisseries catering to these visitors. You shouldn't miss lángos (a Hungarian food specialty, it's a deep fried flat bread made of a dough with flour, yeast, salt and water) at Fő Square no. 8 or bread lángos on the main street. The name of the town is ultimately based on the Medieval Latin form Sankt Andrae. Szentendre to this day is characterised by a south European atmosphere with much baroque architecture, churches of various faiths, narrow sidestreets and cobblestone roads.
